NORTHPORT, MI – Mitten Brewing Company is closing its Northern Michigan taproom.

Brewery staff made the announcement on the brewery’s Facebook page on Thursday, noting that 2022 will be their last year of operation. The lease on the location ends on Jan. 7, 2023.

Staff noted that it “was not our desire” to close the location, but the decision was made after owners could not work out what they considered a reasonable deal with the landlord of the location.

“This was not a failure of business,” a statement reads. “In fact, this year has been one of our most successful yet.”

Mitten Brewing still has locations on the Lake Michigan lakeshore in Saugatuck and on the west side of Grand Rapids on Leonard Street.

The brewery says it is still planning to hist 2022 Village holiday events as planned.

The brewery’s owners thanked customers, whose support allowed community outreach such as paying for school lunch debt at Suttons Bay Public Schools, staff and community partners such as the North End Eatery, The New Bohemian Café and North Shore Outfitters.

“To our young children, who loved to spend summer weekends in Northport. Thank you, and we’re sorry it ended this way,” the statement ends.
