Ghostfish Brewing Company East located in Westfield, NY is seeking a Head Brewer to be a leader in the eastward expansion of Ghostfish Brewing Company. Ghostfish is an award-winning brewery located in the heart of Seattle, WA.

Ghostfish East is seeking a Head Brewer. Ghostfish East will operate a 20bbl brewhouse and packaging operation to support retail channel demands.  As a dedicated gluten-free brewery, we work exclusively with alternative grains such as millet, rice, and buckwheat. We are looking for an experienced, creative, and motivated person to join our team and assist with producing world-class quality gluten-free craft beer.

Ghostfish East is currently working on start-up activities and we expect that our Head Brewer will participate in operational set-ups and collaborate with our Seattle team in preparation to begin operations. 

This position is responsible for following established SOPs and brewery best practices in order to produce high-quality beer. As an integral part of the success of our brewery, the Head Brewer will employ his/her depth of knowledge of beer science in order to play a critical role in maintaining and enhancing the finished product and overall customer experience. This job includes both brewing and cellaring duties and operation of a 20bbl, 3 vessel Zhongde Equipment Company brewhouse. The Head Brewer must be a hardworking, responsible, and self-motivated individual with a passion for craft beer and a desire to continue learning and growing within the industry. The candidate should also be a sociable person who is comfortable occasionally representing the brewery in public. Natural leadership, integrity, loyalty, and a good sense of humor. DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Startup activities as needed • Responsible for many aspects of the day-to-day operation of the brewery • Oversee wort production including, but not limited to raw material handling, milling, mash/lautering operation, wort boiling/hopping, cooling, graining out, and brewhouse CIP • Assistance with yeast handling and management • Cellaring duties include, but are not limited to fermentation, conditioning, treatment, dry-hopping, clarification, carbonation, and any other processes required to achieve a final product ready for packaging • CIP (clean-in-place) of brewing and fermentation tanks, and other equipment • Logging of all brewing-related notes from brew day through fermentation, finishing, and packaging and routine analysis of in-process beer • Following SOPs (standard operating procedures) in each phase of brewing, fermentation, and packaging • Maintaining clean brewing practices in the brewhouse and cellar • Executing preventative maintenance on all brewhouse and cellar equipment • Careful execution of treatment plans for specialty beers • Assistance with lab testing and other Quality Assurance activities • Able to perform cell counts – titrations

• 2 years of commercial brewing experience • A strong passion for brewing and a desire to advance personal growth in the brewing industry • Strong organizational habits, a self-motivated work ethic, and good critical thinking/problem-solving skills • Flexibility in terms of hours and a willingness to work night shifts, weekends, and overtime as needed • Computer literate with an understanding of Microsoft Office/spreadsheet programs • Ability to multi-task • Ability to work as part of a team and collaborate with our Seattle team • Organized with excellent time management skills • Attention to detail • Overnight travel as needed

EXPERIENCE IN ANY OF THE FOLLOWING IS PREFERABLE

• Prior packaging, canning, and racking experience • Yeast propagation experience • Mechanical experience and aptitude • Forklift operation • Prior experience with brewery management systems (Ekos, Orchestrated)

This employee regularly works with hazardous machinery, materials, chemicals, wet floors, and wet equipment. This employee regularly works around high voltage, hot water, and steam. • Ability to frequently sit, stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl • Heavy physical work including climbing stairs, climbing into tanks, pulling hoses, etc. • Willing to work in a non-temperature-controlled environment • Ability to handle heavy objects safely and with proper body mechanics. Frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and routinely maneuver objects weighing up to 165 lbs. • Ability to frequently talk, hear, and smell
